When Lord Rama was born King Ravana was ruling Sri Lanka with extreme power and honesty. One of the important boons that he received from Brahma was that he would never die in the hands of gods or demigods or Yakshas or other such personalities. But he forgot to include men in the list of slayers and that was his curse.

Gods, devas, and others went directly to Lord Vishnu and requested him to take the human form and kill Lord Ravana. Maha Vishnu descended on this earth in the human form and was born to King Dasharatha. He grew as a brilliant, strong, bold and confident child and married Sita when he reached the age of marriage. After marrying Sita he was compelled to leave on exile for a period of fourteen years to forest named Dhandaka. Lord Rama, Sita and his brother Lakshmana reach the forest after a long journey and stays there for few months. On one fine day, King Ravana abducts Sita and takes her to his kingdom and forces her to marry him. But Sita refuses to marry him and stays aloof in the kingdom eagerly waiting for the arrival of Lord Rama to save her. Lord Rama plots a wonderful plan and reaches Sri Lanka along with Hanuman. After a fierce battle, he kills Ravana and comes back to Ayodhya along with Hanuman, Sita, and Lakshmana and becomes the king of Ayodhya. During Sri Ram Navami the Hindus pray Lord Rama with great devotion, perform lots of poojas, read the great epic Ramayana and also take part in Kalyan-Ots Vam.
