Muharram is a Celebration of Sweets

Muharram – is an extraordinary occurrence which denotes the blessed day of Ashura. Muharram is one of the four ordained months of the year and is recognized as the divine month after Ramadan. The word ‘Muharram’ indicates prohibited and immoral. According to the Islamic record, the holy day customarily comes on the 10th day of the month of Muharram and this day is recognized as the day of grief which is fundamentally obeyed by the Shia Muslims.

It is assumed that Imam Hussain Ibn Ali aka Imam Hussain Ali, was the third Imam of the Shia population. He was even the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, who was killed on this day. And that’s the principal cause why the entire Shia Muslim Association whips themselves with sharp objects on their heads, chest, and back on Muharram. The Sunni and Shia community of Muslims celebrates Muharram. Sunni Muslims fast and it is said that it gets noted in the hadith. People believe that Musa and his army obtained victory over Egyptian Pharaoh. On the other hand, Shia Muslims rejoice Muharram in a distinctive fashion.

Muslims fast on the 9th, 10th and 11th day of Muharram, as it is recognized the best fast to observe after Ramadan, the month of fasting. It is guessed that fasting on Muharram atones for the sins of the coming year. Muharram is all about the sacrifice of Imam Hussain.

The entire month of Muharram is viewed as sacred during which fighting is stringently restrained. First, ten days of this celebration is called as the period of sadness. According to the story, it is considered that Prophet Mohammed had no heir as he never named anyone. So his followers have been elected as his successor. Hussain, the younger son of Ali, was assassinated on the tenth day of the month of Muharram that’s why the situation is so called Ashura. This pointed to the separation of whole Muslim society into Shias and Sunnis. This day is celebrated by the Shias Muslim by holding rightful successors of the Prophet Mohammed (Ali, Hassan, and Hussain). They grieve the loss of Prophet’s heir during the Muharram and on the arrival of the crescent moon, they render the mournful verses on the sugared cold drink by carrying the black dress in the memory of the Imam Hussain. Whereas, it is celebrated by the Sunnis Muslim as the event during which they maintain peace and taciturnity.

This celebration is celebrated with great devotion with extensive prayer gatherings (in the mosques or private homes), parades and marches which create local traffic. It is honored in the same manner by the Muslim community all over the country. It is also observed as the month of sadness in order to remember the Battle of Karbala. Muslim people of Shia community, whine very loudly and hit their chest by being a catastrophe in order to honor all the miseries of the Imam Hussain and his disciples.
